ACTIVISM
Annmarie is an ardent advocate for several causes that are near and dear to her heart. She uses her platforms and connections to spread awareness of mental health, women's rights, and political advocacy.
MentalHealth
Annmarie started her professional career as an essential worker during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. She worked at Integrity Senior Services where she used her communications skills to provide diverse elderly, a segment of the population that was hit the hardest by COVID-19, with resources to combat anxiety and depression.
Annmarie also uses social media to promote journaling and self-love due to her own struggles with depression and perfectionism. She aims to create a community for young people to support and uplift one another both virtually and in-person.
She was named a Times Square Hero of 2020 and was invited to the private ball drop in Times Square, where she worked with Lucy Hale and the Times Square Alliance to shed light on the stigma surrounding mental health through an interview segment on
“New Year’s Rockin’ Eve.”
WOMEN'SRIGHTS
As a member of the inaugural cohort of Break Through Tech (BTT) New York’s Summer Studio program for womxn in technology, Annmarie became interested in advancing gender rights at a young age. After interning at Cornell Tech and working with Google before she started college, Annmarie knew that she wanted to continue championing gender rights. She participated in Break Through Tech’s Winternship program at Turner Broadcasting, the Career Access program, and worked closely with Break Through Tech staff to expand the program nationally. She is still an Alumni Mentor and Ambassador for the program.
Annmarie also traveled to Thailand to volunteer with the Development & Education Programme for Daughters & Communities Centre in the Greater Mekong Subregion (DEPDC) in 2017. She served as a volunteer English teacher for students from Laos, Myanmar, and Thailand, who were at risk of human trafficking, while working with local monks to overcome language barriers. Annmarie intends to continue advocating for women’s rights through a future career in law.
POLITICALADVOCACY
Annmarie was a 2020 We Power New York City Ambassador for NYC Votes at the New York City Campaign Finance Board. She used her social media platforms to share information about voting, while also creating content in numerous languages, such as Swahili and Spanish, in order to ensure that people of all backgrounds could vote safely and securely.
She joined QPTV’s live coverage of the 2020 Presidential election to share youth perspectives on this historic race, as well as to discuss issues like lack of online voter registration and inadequate urban planning.
Annmarie helped allocate $10,000 worth of participatory budgeting towards iHeartRadio promotions, phone banked thousands of New Yorkers, and gave testimonies on the importance of online voter registration to underprivileged youth at a New York State Supreme Court hearing and the New York City Campaign Finance Board’s 2020 Voter Assistance Advisory Committee.
